Study Summary

Begins Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM November 4th, 2020 and continuing into April, 2021

This comprehensive seminar will provide you with spiritual and historical insight into the purpose of the Scripture from the Old Testament. God is working today through the OT as it reveals His love for Israel and how we are grafted into His plans now and in the future based upon His grace and mercy.

Each book of the OT will be presented with insight into: authorship, date of writing and date of events covered, how the book(s) became canon, literary style of the writer, truths expressed, outline of each book, purpose of the book, historical setting, and literary units.
Each attender will receive cumulatively a sixty page Outline of the complete class.

You must attend to receive each weekly handout!

In addition the following sub topics will be explained as they are key to understanding the relationship of the books within each grouping of the books into: the Law, the Histories, the Wisdom Literature, and the Prophets which is how the OT books are arranged by the Hebrew rabbis.
Sub Topics such as:
What is the meaning and purpose of the Covenants?
Are the OT Scriptures reliably ancient and un-redacted by later scribes?
What is the significance of the kingship of Saul vs. that of David?
What are the differences between Israel and Judah during the divided kingdom?
Why do Kings and Chronicles seem to cover the same events?
How do you distinguish literal vs. allegorical prophecy?
What effect do other Ancient Near Eastern cultures have on OT Israel in legal matters, religious beliefs and practices, and social customs?

Each attender will receive written articles as handouts which address these topics.

What a joy to be back in the sanctuary with you last night. I really appreciate the interest and turn out. I am attaching several documents as a supplement to this session. Attached are: a detailed outline of Ezra and Nehemiah, a chart reflecting the division and allotment of the land to the tribes, a chart showing the feast days of Israel, a chart of the genealogy of the Levitical priesthood, and a list of the kings of Persia. Next week, Lord willing, we will examine the historical books of Ruth and Esther which will conclude the second section of the Hebrew Old Testament which is called “The Histories”.
